"How did you edit that photo?" is a question I get asked numerous times regarding my Instagram snaps. I like using VSCO Cam and I am very familiar with it. It is a free editing app that has amazing presets and is really easy to use. I would recommend it to anyone. There are countless ways to edit your photos. One tip I have is just to have an idea of what you want your photo to look like and work your way to achieve that! So here (above) is a before (left) and after (right). I took this on the beach early in the morning. My vision for this photo was to make it look like it was taken with film. Here are my steps!
The first thing I did was pick a filter. I came across M5, which creates a moody vibe to the photo. It also fades the photo a bit, just like film. You can play around with the strength of the filter.
Next I wanted to add a warm worn tone. So amped up the temperature just a bit.
Then I realized after this step a lot of my detail was gone, so I brought up the contrast a little.
The waves in the photo were very vibrant, so I used the highlights tool to tone it down.
Lastly, to add to to the grain effect, use the sharpen tool
Vuala! In less than 5 minutes, you can completely transform your photo.
